General Information

Overview

The University of Oregon is a comprehensive research university that provides students
a top-quality education in the liberal arts, sciences and professions.

The UO's academic reputation is highlighted by its stature as Oregon's only member
of the prestigious Association of American Universities, one of just 30 public universities
in the United States so honored. Membership in this select group signifies preeminence
in graduate and professional education and basic research. The quality of its faculty has
been ranked fifteenth nationally among all U.S. public universities, while the UO's emphasis
on teaching is highlighted by innovative new programs, such as the Oregon Model
of small-class undergraduate education. Other University of Oregon achievements include
being ranked among the top 15 "Best Buys" in public higher education.

Located in the southern Willamette Valley city of Eugene, close to some of the world's
most spectacular beaches, mountains, lakes and forests, the 280-acre main UO campus
consists of 50 major buildings surrounded by an arboretum of more than 2,000 varieties of trees.
Sunset magazine recently ranked Eugene one of the West's five best college towns.
Take our Virtual Reality Tour to see the campus.

The combination of strong academic programs, beautiful setting and moderate size draws
an annual enrollment of about 17,000, nearly 10 percent of whom are international students
from more than 80 foreign countries.
